iTunes Remains Largest US Music Seller For Fifth Year (from Billboard Magazine, May 3, 2012) Digital sales are here to stay. This is proved by iTunes continuing to grow and holding its place as the largest music seller in the US for the fifth consecutive year. In 2011, iTunes’ market share of music sales rose five percentage points from the previous year, to 38.23 percent. This is more than twice that of Anderson Merchandisers, the company who supplies CDs to Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Within digital sales, iTunes is not only dominant in the single tracks market, but album sales as well. www.entertainmentmanagementonline.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2012/05/09/4fa5899fbc8f5

Q3... 1. Are Amazon and AO sales numbers count as well? 2. If you buy the box set with an LP and a CD are they counted as 2 units? The building charts are just a forecast and do not include Amazon or Play.com which operates AO.com. Amazon and AO.com sales count for the Billboard and RIAA. Regarding the LP CD box sets, I believe that they count as one unit. I will research it tomorrow. only US sales through AO? or also overseas sales?

Well damn, I bought thru Amazon and AO. None of my buys are gonna count for Soundscan. Won't make that mistake again. If he loses that #1 position, it will be partly my fault.
But gonna make up for it Saturday and purchase from itunes.

OMG!! Adam is wearing the leopard star shirt! I'm laughing! I can't even be angry. That man is just silly and trolling us, cause the long sleeve shirt, is an eyesore.
Ha, maybe to you. I love it! Ditto I love it !! And I ADORE the green/yellow he wore for the AI performance ;D

Assuming you didn't buy a large number of CDs (say over 7 or so) from any one retailer and therefore get your purchase marked as 'abnormal'. What people are saying is that if you buy a physical CD from AO or Amazon right now, it won't count as a sale until your card is charged and they send it out for shipping, which might not be until Monday, so that would count for next week, but it would still count.

Also interesting to see that Starbucks is actually a player in this. I was at Whole Foods today and they were selling CD's at the checkout like in Starbucks. It included the same indy group of artists so I figured Adam wasn't the right fit, but then I saw that they were stocking the One Direction CD. Whole Foods betteh get on that and stock one of their biggest spokespersons! Reading around on twitter and AO and driving around town running other errands, it looks like people are saying Best Buy is heavily stocked, so probably a good place to pick up an extra one if you plan to. Target and Walmart it varies and may be running low some places on the shelves. Two people said that they didn't see it at Walmart and when they asked, found out that it was in a not-yet opened for stocking box in the back so they got the clerk to open it up.

I need to understand the thing about buying a large number of CDs. I bought from Amazon. I've sent 8 to the two youth charities in 3 separate shipments. I purchased 2 for friends and had them shipped directly to them. And one for me. So, do they add this up, or do they take into account that I personally only received one?

Was hoping to post before the thread died -- oh well! This is kind of a drive by post, but will probably be a long one. I'm completely overwhelmed and excited by all the great news, performances, interviews, reviews. But to say I can't keep up is an understatement. It's almost discouraging! Just can't do it. *Real Life* is too involving and distracting, and there's TOO MUCH Adam news!! But while it's too much for me to keep up with, it's fantastic and as a fan, I'm thrilled. I have never doubted his success, and he is getting there; it's happening for him. Whatever that means, and however it looks, he's getting there. Just ordered my second deluxe cd -- for my car, and to possibly share with a couple of somewhat interested friends. I've given up on attempting to convert anyone else; I'm hoping that some people who THINK they're not interested will hear a song or read an article or listen to NPR this Sunday and decide to check him out. It feels like he's everywhere! I plan to download from Itunes if I have time tomorrow. And that will be it for me -- not getting the box sex -- guess I prefer it out of the box?? 8-) Although I love the cover photos on the deluxe edition (love the HAT!), the lithographs didn't tempt me enough, and I still have an unframed print of the acoustic cd cover, which I LOVE (love flower child Adam) but (due to the other people in my home and in my life) I can't figure out what to do with it. While I haven't had a chance to watch most of the concert vids and interviews (although I read some of the print ones), I did see the GMA and Idol performances. Much preferred the Idol performance (and JACKET) over GMA. Loved the neon, too. And ADORED the Billboard photos that were posted earlier in the week -- fantastic. Loved the distressed jeans and black jacket -- so much better IMO than the horse jacket he had on earlier in the day. Here are a few other things I loved from earlier in the week and before (hope I'm remembering these correctly): 1. The Village Voice print interview -- thought it was really interesting and focused on the music, and Adam was particularly articulate and thoughtful -- not that he ever isn't, lol. 2. Loved the 4 stars from Rolling Stone, and the review! 3. Loved the Billboard article and review (along with those photos!) -- "underestimate him at your own risk". Yes! 4. Loved the comments in one of the reviews -- think it was 'evokeonline' -- that stated that Idol hasn't been the same since Adam was on. Not that I've watched! Did the New York Times review Trespassing? Not that we need them -- I seem to remember that they brought down the Metacritic score for FYE. And slightly OT -- one thing that has continued to baffle me over the last few weeks is how many people were unfamiliar with kale! As a veggie fanatic, I'm kind of incredulous that it's new to so many people. I had an organic vegetable garden when my kids were growing up (I kind of acquired it when my husband and I bought a little gardener's cottage in the New York suburbs and were still commuting into Manhattan) and they all turned into veggie lovers! My youngest son told his preschool teacher that his favorite food was cucumbers, lol. Anyway, it's been an eye-opener to see how many people don't know about kale. It's a nutritional powerhouse! Of course, so are collards, and mustard greens, and broccoli, etc., etc.. Anyway, it's yet another way in which Adam is changing the world for the better! ;D Things I loved in today's thread (as I randomly and hurriedly skimmed through the pages): 1. AleksandraKv: Loved your post on page 7 about the Idol performance, especially this: "He's reaching the realm of perfection and I'm a little scared by that because it feels surreal, I wouldn't be surprised if he disappeared in a puff of smoke like some vision from 1001 Nights." 2. Slapdash La Rue: Your post on page 18 completely cracked me up. I seem to remember a few similar moments with my own kids, lol. 3. MWP: Adored your recap, especially this: "I have to laugh, a little, and shake my head at Adam's insistence that "glitter is dead." As peeps have pointed out, reviewer after reviewer has celebrated the return of glitter and glam with this album. It's not about a little face-paint, or a few sequins. It's about that charismatic sparkling persona that comes out even in the recorded music. You can take the boy out of the glitter, but you can't take the glitter out of the boy. And when Adam is on stage he shines like he's made out of solid diamond. Poor kid can't help it. Sorry Adam. " Finally, thanks for the birthday wishes, Atopians. And OMG, sorry this is so long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is interesting that Nancy Sinatra tweeted that Adam was "perfect on Idol...Great American Rocker". I know that Nancy is a "glambert" and has compared Adam to her father. But then Mia Farrow just tweeted "@adamlambert just awesome. #Trespassing". Mia, of course, was married to Frank Sinatra. So both Frank Sinatra's daughter and his former wife, women who know what a legendary male singer sounds like, love Adam! Yeah, you can compare AL to Elvis, to Freddie, to MJ, to George Michael. But even though the style of music is different, Adam has a voice and swagger comparable to the great Sinatra. I guess you can tell I was a great fan of Sinatra. He did it his way. And Adam too is his own man. Incidently her second husband's name was Hugh Lambert. So she has two children with the last name Lambert.

Wow, Amazon is surprisingly low. I would have thought Walmart would be on the list as a big album retailer. I wish I still had the article, so I could post the actual top 10, but Walmart was not one of them. Target was #3 at 7%. That is about all I remember though.
Well, if Walmart actually had the Deluxe CD in stock, they're numbers might have been higher.
