You guys are all very sweet and the birds video was beautiful - what a wonderful word 'murmuration' is.... I'm no birder but I love them and I did take a first date to see "Winged Migration" - he was very cool about it
I'll be up with more randomness very soon but I herniated a disc and it's making life a little tougher (or at least interfering with my ability to string words together )
Since Adam is watching movies, I will say that a friend brought over an old favorite of ours -- "Everything is Illuminated" - we recite the dialogue and I laugh, I cry, I wish Liev Schreiber would come over for a dinner party.
Finally, I recently went to Bruges and brought back some treats...
One of the problems I have in staying current with Atop is that I feel so isolated and am constantly playing catch up on the daily threads.
Yesterday I stumbled into this beautiful garden. I had just enough time to skim a couple of posts, write something hasty, and then I had to leave. I did promise myself I would come back and try to read the rest of the thread.
Today I came back and the first thing I read was mika's Big Year. I am stunned. I am so incredibly moved.
Mika, I don't know what to say, except that I am bookmarking your post. I want to read it again. And again. I want to relive your experiences and feel again the emotions your words evoked in my head and heart.
I am so grateful to you for sharing with us. Thank you. Thank you.
Aloha, I'm so glad you found the moon garden and appreciate its beauty. It's very comfortable here.

I was going to post this in the main thread, but chickened out. Don't know how to bring the video here, but I guess Adam tweeted it.
I’m sorry, but I need to say my piece about the Paul McCartney YT. Let me get this straight. I did something illegal. A media person asks me if I did it. I don’t live under rock, am a major celebrity, and know that a media person’s job is to report what is told to me to the masses. Not a rumor, but a fact told to me by the person who comitted the crime. Not to mention the fact that I’m now talking to a host of a TV show. I choose to answer the question honestly while saying that it’s personal and I’d like to keep it that way. But, well, I was being honest................ However, it is not my fault or responsibility for spreading what I said to the masses, it is the media’s fault. THEY should choose not to report it. Huh?
Gee Paul, ya think you might have said “that’s none of your business” and kept it private in the first place? Especially since you said that was your wish? And it would not encourage your fans to try said illegal substance? I mean, they have not ever done anything because you did it, right? Okay, I get it, your admitting that you did it had no effect on them
I don’t see how this compares to Adam. His coming out is not something he does, it’s who he is. He encourages people to be honest about who they are. Not the same thing IMO.
I’m not saying that doing some drugs is a bad thing. Just the way he turned it around and blamed it on the media. WTF? How about taking some responsibility for your actions. Not necessarily doing the deed, but reporting it to a reporter.
Okay, let the disagreements with my interpretation fly. Just couldn’t keep my mouth shut on this one.
ETA: I do not have a problem with Adam talking or singing about tripping. But, to my knowledge, he never said that he wished to keep it private and blamed the media for reporting it.
Sugaree ~ I think Adam's point in tweeting that Paul Mc Vid was that Paul had done drugs and talked about it many many years ago. I'm sure Adam has gotten some flack for talking about his drug use, and is pointing out that Paul went through the same criticism and sensationalism from the media on it. It is not new, nor did it ruin Paul's career. I remember when the Beatles spent all that time in India with the Guru's, and then came out with the fab Seargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Apple album. Their music changed because of their experiences and dabbling in the physchadelics, IMO. Adam just wants peeps to remember one of the great musicians and his experiences.................. Can we now expect to see a new DrugGate? Adam always gives us clues, it will be interesting.
I do agree with you, any celebrity should know that whatever they say will be reported and sensationalized, and if they don't want the public to know about it, they shouldn't talk about it.
mahalia, nice to see you! I do get and agree with everything you said. It's just for me the Paul bit highlighted that he didn't think it being made public was "his fault", not the fact that that he said/did it. Adam is usually more insightful and I do not see the comparison. But again, that's just my opinion, based on what stood out for me.
Confused. Is there some new Adam drug news or something? Or is Adam making a broader point about the media and celebrity culture. Hope there's not a new gate, they are unpleasant.

I understand what you are saying sugaree and you make a good point. I assumed Adam was referencing that in the context of the accusations made all the time that he is ALWAYS talking about his sexuality and orientation....the old, "why are you always pushing it in my face" accusation. What Adam is saying...I think...and what Paul was saying...is that "Yes I admit it...but it is you that is making it sensational....over and over again"...
If the press did not sensationalize Adam's sexual orientation, most of the general public would not be so hyper-aware of his orientation and radio would not have to censure their playing of his music. This is why most musicians and celebrities do not "come out". They are technically 'out' as in all their friends and peers know of their orientation, but they dare not say anything to the media! That is the MEDIA at fault, IMHO, not the artist.
Look at the speculation and the circus around John Travolta and/or Tom Cruise. What do you think would happen to their careers if they actually told the truth! Would it be their fault if the ensuing circus let a fan with issues suddenly either came out or jumped off a bridge?...I would blame the press, not the star. George Michael's career never survived...I doubt Ricky Martin's will most likely never get any bigger than it is..the press hounded them.
One last point, when Paul made that statement, there was no social media and/or internet so when something became massively publicized, it really was the "fault" of the media. There were plenty of things they did not make public....eg, Rock Hudson's orientation...many major stars. For good or bad, in the US....sexual orientation was until very recently, a taboo topic even for the media bottom-feeders. Not so anymore...
On a good note, I think we can thank Adam for taking some of the mystery and skullduggery from the reporting on sexuality...but his career is not helped by this. His talent is great enough that they are having a tough time killing his career too....but the constant references and questions about this taboo topic are not helping him at all. And that is what he is referencing. The drug talk about the Beatles did not help their career....but they were big enough to ride it out. The reason the drug talk and the sex talk are analagous is not because they are similar vices but because the media made them far more widely known and therefore potent instigators of change...whether the change is good or bad in anyone's pov.
Well...that was a little deep for first thing in the morning....:-)
ETA I wish you did not have to fear the pile on in the main thread...but you are right to fear it. At least we have here to have the conversation so I am really glad you felt safe to make your point sugaree
and on a personal note sugaree ...my dd LOVES her e-cig and now would like to sell them lol. yeah....
I get what you say too mzsue. And I guess the thing that really still bugs me is that Paul SAID IT, and then blamed the media. Way different than not admitting it and the media and public blowing it out of proportion based on speculation, as with Cruise, Travolta and Hudson. I hate how the media dwells on Adam's controversial (unfortunately) orientation, drug use, etc., but Adam has never blamed them for spreading what HE SAID, just hates that it is what they dwell on instead of his music and talent.
Sorry, I'm repeating myself here. Everyone else, please comment. I love the conversation. I think you all know what bugs me about what Paul said.
ETA: Soooo happy about your dd. Aren't they illegal in Canada? I wouldn't want her to publicly admit that she wants to sell them ;D (you know I was joking because of this conversation, right?)

Adam hasn't blamed the media for what HE said but he sure has blamed the media for twisting his words about drugs. Actually he was very mad to the point he called them "clever fuckers" on twitter. There was a printed interview (not in the US fortunately). They asked Adam about the RS article and the "mushroom epiphany" at Burning Man and then they twisted his words and their question. So they posted something like "So your advice for the young people if they want to be happy and fulfill their dreams is to take drugs? and that Adam's answer was "Sure, if that's what makes them happy why not?"
These are not the exact words they used but this was the message they wanted to get through.
Something that Adam never said. Fortunately this article never reached the US and didn't do him harm. Adam was surely mad about it.
After that interview he went to Singapore and during an interview we saw on YT a reporter asking him about why was he so angry and why he tweeted this and Adam said "That is the reason I prefer videos because you can actually see the words coming out of my mouth" The reporter asked him if he wanted to say something more about it and Adam (smart he is) didn't mention what article or anything else, so everything was forgotten.
You can see this part of the interview here and you can see the tweets he wrote about this.
You're trying to be honest and as Adam has said many times they take a part of an interview, twist it and sensationalize it, in order to fit their needs. I believe Adam was referring to this today, among other things.
Just as they could take Paul's words and make them look like Paul is encouraging people and he's leading the example of doing drugs.
I do believe what Paul wanted to say is that he wants to answer honestly every question he's being asked and not avoid it . Just like Adam has said so many times. What the media chooses to do with it , is THEIR responsibilty not his.
Hi gelly. Thanks for all the info and your opinion and observations. I don't know how to do the quote/answer thing, so I'm doing it this way.
Adam hasn't blamed the media for what HE said but he sure has blamed the media for twisting his words about drugs.
Yep, I know that. That's why I didn't see the comparison with what Paul said. I don't know what the media said before or after that interview, but Paul did not say that they twisted or sensationalized it, though they probably did. Maybe he was trying to say that, but he didn't.

I did not know about this and the whole thing totally sucks. I bet he was pissed off. Glad it wasn't printed here because for sure it would have blown up. Thanks for telling me about it.

Unfortunately, Paul was on TV and people saw and heard his words. I do not think he was telling or encouraging his fans to do drugs. Just still don't like that he said it was all the media's fault. He said what he said and again, he did not talk about them twisting his words. He might have meant to, but he didn't.
You can see this part of the interview here and you can see the tweets he wrote about this.
I can not view the video, but your explanation tells me what happened.
You're trying to be honest and as Adam has said many times they take a part of an interview, twist it and sensationalize it, in order to fit their needs. I believe Adam was referring to this today, among other things.

I agree that Adam has handled this well. I'm not comparing what Adam has done to what Paul said. And what you said is probably what he is trying to convey. I just think he missed the mark on this one with choosing that particular video. I am not putting Adam down, just don't think the Paul video was a good example. I'm sure a lot of other people took it in the right context.
And I'm all for honesty, but I thought that if Paul wanted to keep it private, he should have done so.
Yep, I know that. That's why I didn't see the comparison with what Paul said. I don't know what the media said before or after that interview, but Paul did not say that they twisted or sensationalized it, though they probably did. Maybe he was trying to say that, but he didn't.
I think they DID try to sensationalize it, because the reporter is telling him that he is a public figure and doesn't Paul think that it will encourage his fans on doing drugs? And Paul is saying that he answered a question by telling the truth. He didn't say to others "Do drugs" though the media will say that "that's exactly what he did, he should be a role model to his fans , cause he's a public figure etc etc"
This is the comparison I see regarding Adam. They want to make him a role model, although Adam always says "Don't do what I do, do what you do" , and that he's surely not perfect and he doesn't want to "look perfect" as many artists are trying hard to "look and act perfect" and be role models by trying to always say "the right things". And then something happens and "the role model' is not exactly the role model and their fans are deeply dissapointed because what they thought was true is really not.
I'm not good at explaining my thoughts in English , I hope you understand my point of view.

Q3: blueberry. there should be a two labels on tabs at the bottom of the REPLY box -- one labeled Preview and one labeled BBCode. Can you see these or are they gone?
May 19, 2013 2:08:40 GMT -5
blueberry: Q3, I can still see the labels, but when I click on the Preview label, nothing happens. And every time I start a new post, it automatically takes me to BB Code. Otherwise it doesn't matter, but posting pictures would be easier in Preview (copy+paste).
