There were some comments in yesterday's thread (can't remember who from) that were talking about the vocal riffing and runs that Adam does. Some like it, some not so much - I tend to think of it in this way... Adam is the kid that can ride his bike full speed downhill balancing with his arms spread wide - "weeee look at me, isn't this fun" - that's the way I see the vocal runs, it's his way of spreading his arms wide and embracing the joy of the moment when he sings. Perfect!!!

LOVE ALL THE RUNS!!!! it is thrilling! your analogy is sooo spot on! not to mention that the sounds are most beautiful!!! and IMO - very tasteful - they are ALWAYS in the right spot at the right time with the right energy... also - LOVE ALLL his facial expressions: mouth opened, tongue sticking out (He hasn't done that singing lately :( ).., stank face, silly face, "what have I done" face, anything on that "perfectly constructed" face.... ... and now that I made a fool out of myself I am going to pay attention to work...
What's amazing about Adam's vocal riffing and runs is that he does them so easily - it's no more effort for him than breathing.
When other singers add runs to their performances, you can see how they have to build up to them; you see them pause, and can almost hear their mental gears grinding and hear them thinking "OK, brace yourself...money note coming up...deep breath...use your diaphragm...<big note>...whew, made it...now where was I?"
Adam just throws those runs and glory notes right out there, easy as pie, and often adds a little body language for extra spice. I love his facial expressiveness too - can't stand deadpan singers.

Switching topic for a minute. Just having a little vent. Very frustrated with way Adam is being promoted etc here in oz. TP and NCOE are basically nowhere on charts. It got buried during The Voice madness and never found its place again. Great to hear NZ is supporting it. Doubt we will see Adam down here anytime - based on performance of album I wouldn't be coming... Top 40 radio here is just as bad as US!
Ok grumble done. Flail on.

Whoa......love the riffs, love the improvs.

JB @flyteness1 www.standard.co.uk/arts/music/cds-of-the-week-7917705.htmlCDs of the week
Our critics round up the week's best pop, world and jazz albums 06 July 2012 Adam Lambert Trespassing (19/RCA) *** Eyebrows were raised when Adam Lambert, runner-up in the 2009 series of American Idol, secured the Queen singer’s job in February, but he has his own career too. Trespassing is his second album of impossibly perky, relentless electropop which, Lambert claimed, made him the first openly gay solo artist to top the American album charts. It outstays its welcome over 17 not entirely dissimilar tracks, but there are moments to treasure, not least the flag-waving Runnin’ and the Bruno Mars-helmed Never Close Our Eyes. Best of all though is the eye-popping, finger-clicking title track: it’s Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes’ best work in years and nothing here comes close to eclipsing it. JOHN AIZLEWOOD JB @flyteness1 @jeanjenie John Aizlewood is not easily pleased, it's praise indeed from him JB @flyteness1 Can I just say that John Aizlewood's review of Trespassing in the Evening Standard is nothing short of fucking remarkable. He iz mean.JB @flyteness1 @wasdcfm @jeanjenie He's downright brutal, I'm delighted with his 3*
